Instructional Solution
A World In Motion® (AWIM®) brings STEM concepts to life in and out of the classroom, setting students on a path of lifelong learning and discovery. It empowers educators to spark interest–sharpening workforce skills such as problem-solving, inquiry & analysis, communication, critical thinking, and project management–and provides the foundation for students to succeed in their education and careers. AWIM starts with the youngest learners and has reached over 6 million students globally since 1990. Beginning with three Challenges, AWIM has grown to 17 Challenges across four grade bands: PreK, Primary (K-3), Elementary (4-6) & Middle School (6-8). The curriculum evolves to meet classroom practices and is aligned to state and national standards by grade band. Teacher-led and volunteer-assisted, AWIM brings industry professionals into classrooms to help guide students through the Engineering Design Experience. Collaborating in teams of 3-4, students engage in problem-solving and create a design to meet a need stated in a toy company’s RFP. They set goals, build knowledge, design, build & test, & present final products. Assessment is incorporated throughout; teachers evaluate and tailor the experience to students’ learning styles and abilities. AWIM aims to help teachers support key content and skill standards—not add on to what they already teach. A comprehensive Teacher Manual and all materials are provided, and AWIM staff provide initial training and ongoing support.
