MD – EMEA Head of Electronic Trading and Market Structure, Blackrock
Daniel Mayston, PhD, FRM, Managing Director, is Head of Market Structure and Electronic Trading in BlackRock’s Global Trading organization in Europe. He also takes the reports of the Market Structure as well as Trading Research teams globally. Dr. Mayston is responsible for overseeing electronic trading initiatives, adapting the trading platform in the light of market structure evolution, and delivering execution research across all asset classes. His role’s mandate includes strengthening the role of quantitative data, modeling, and technology in the trading process to drive execution performance. His research responsibilities include the delivery of cutting-edge transaction cost and liquidity models that combine traditional econometric techniques with innovative machine learning approaches.
He also represents BlackRock externally on various industry bodies and at conferences to advocate for trading and market structure solutions in the interest of the end investor. Prior to his current role, Dr. Mayston was Global Head of BlackRock’s Trading Research within the trading organization, overseeing and managing the global research team. He started his a career in a Quantitative Researcher role in which he developed short- and mid-horizon alpha signals and trading insights. Dr. Mayston earned a PhD in Finance from the University of Cologne. His academic focus was on liquidity risk and limit order book markets. He is a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) charter holder.
