SIIA Writes Letter to Lawmakers Opposing Illinois Data Broker Registration and Accessible Deletion Act

The Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) has submitted a letter opposing HB2913, the Data Broker Registration and Accessible Deletion Act, warning that the bill could have unintended consequences for Illinois consumers. SIIA raises concerns that allowing broad data deletion requests may undermine fraud detection and law enforcement efforts. The association also urges lawmakers to first establish comprehensive privacy legislation—similar to those in Connecticut and Virginia—before implementing a data broker law to ensure clearer protections for consumers and businesses.
