SIIA Provides Feedback on Proposed Changes to Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (SB769)

The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) has submitted comments to the Virginia Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology regarding SB769, which proposes amendments to the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act. While SIIA supports robust privacy protections and consistent standards across jurisdictions, we have concerns that the proposed changes, particularly those related to cookie consent requirements, could lead to consumer fatigue, confusion, and unnecessary burdens for businesses. We urge lawmakers to consider alternative approaches that enhance privacy protections without undermining the effectiveness of the Act.
