SIIA Joins U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC) to Advance Trustworthy and Ethical AI Development

The following statement can be attributed to Paul Lekas, Senior Vice President, Global Public Policy, the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA).

SIIA has joined more than 200 of the nation’s leading artificial intelligence (AI) stakeholders to participate in the U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC) established by the Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to support the development and deployment of trustworthy and safe AI. The AISIC will bring together AI creators and users, academics, government and industry researchers, and civil society organizations to meet this mission.

Building on NIST’s pivotal role in advancing responsible AI globally, the AI Safety Institute marks a significant step forward in ensuring the safe and ethical development of AI technologies. The AISIC will further NIST’s approach to expert-driven, collaborative development of guidance to manage the evolving risks of AI technologies while harnessing the potential of these to address critical societal needs.  As the leading association for the business of information, SIIA is proud to participate in this initiative and contribute the experience of our members developing and adopting AI technologies for consumers, educators and students the financial markets, government and industry.
