SIIA Comments on the Request for Information on Advancing Privacy-Enhancing Technologies – August 2022

SIIA provides comments and policy recommendations to the Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Fast Track Action Committee on Advancing Privacy-Preserving Data Sharing and Analytics of the Subcommittee on Networking and Information Technology Research and Development. We strongly support the U.S. government’s effort to develop a national strategy on privacy preserving data sharing and analytics. We share the government’s optimism about the potential for PETs to address critical challenges around data sharing, collaboration, and analysis in a multitude of areas, including cross-border data transfers, financial crime detection, health care research, and others. Our policy recommendations focus on the need to amend existing and pending regulations and legislation (including FinCEN regulations, ADPPA, U.S. PETs standalone legislation, cross-border efforts, and more) to ensure stronger opportunities for PETs in the digital ecosystem.
