Recommendations to the Senate Majority Committee on S. 3195, Federal Privacy Legislation

SIIA supports the enactment of a federal privacy bill and supports meaningful consumer safeguards and protections for individuals that also balance the practical needs of businesses. In drafting that legislation, the United States also has the benefit of being able to learn from both the mistakes and the successes of the GDPR regions. Beyond training, education gaps and market entry barriers, SMEs face challenges regarding access to technologies, data, finance and other resources. We believe there are specific opportunities, embedded in strong democratic values, to increase access to digital tools and technologies for SMEs in both the United States and European Union (EU).
