Panel – Australia and the World – Understanding Both Dimensions for Market Data People

Finding and keeping the right people and finding and keeping the right job in market data are two sides of the same coin. This is a universal (or at least a global) challenge for all of us in the financial data industry. As always, a global issue has a local dimension – here we address this challenge from an Australian perspective. Market Data is a somewhat esoteric part of the financial markets, it is also an important adjunct to the Technology sector. Even defining what we all mean by ‘market data’ can be ambiguous – for the record we mean all data that feeds into market activity – and all the technology and services that wrap around all that data. Does the wider industry understand us, and more importantly do they value us?

The purpose of this discussion is to identify the nature of the challenge before us and work out how best we can collectively address it – both globally and from an Australian perspective. This discussion is about YOU the people who work in the market data community. Surely talking about YOU is the most pertinent and interesting topic we could discuss.
