The 5 W’s of DRM
Digital Rights Management is seen by some as the next chapter, to move forward in managing contracts & licensing. The manual intensity of today’s usage reporting and contract administration is increasingly costing too much time, has become to some, unsustainable, and drains relationships. On top of that, with the increase of cloud computing and AI, contracts are evolving too, creating more complexity, so the need to find smarter and more effective ways to handle the onslaught of contract management is vital. With technology advancements continuous, the use of AI for a process which many firms would like automated, machine-readable contracts seems to be a fitting solution. Here we will discuss the 5 W’s to see how we can move an ideology to something more concrete.

  1. What is the common understanding of DRM, and what value would we achieve with machine readable contracts?
  2. Which types of technology would firms need to employ to handle DRM and what would be the business case required (budget constraints are always tough)?
  3. When looking at a post DRM world, what are the wins that parties could enjoy, would it be worth it (or should we put DRM to bed and move on)?
  4. Who is DRM suitable for, is it just for big consumer firms or is everyone a winner?
  5. Where is DRM going to be created and pushed forward? Potential players could be Consultancy firm, industry groups such as FinTech, or a coalition of industry players?
