Deputy General Counsel, Anthropic

As Deputy General Counsel at Anthropic, Janel oversees the legal function advising on AI development, commercial deals, product deployment, regulatory/litigation, privacy, and IP among other things. Prior to Anthropic, she led Google Research’s product counsel team supporting AI and emerging technology research and product development. Janel brings deep legal expertise in machine learning, foundation models and cutting edge tech, including generative AI, biometrics and facial recognition, ML fairness and safety tools, computer vision, and more. At Google, she also advised the teams that mitigate the ethical and socio-technical risks related to these breakthrough technologies.
