“The new Delaware consumer privacy law, signed into law by Governor Carney on September 12, contains a number of provisions that SIIA and its members support. We are pleased that the Delaware legislature made changes to the bill that reflect concerns raised by SIIA during testimony, including a protection for the use of publicly available information. We are concerned about the evolving patchwork of laws intending to protect children online across the United States. Delaware’s action also highlights the importance of Congress acting now to enact a strong comprehensive consumer privacy bill with a single national standard. With 12 state privacy regimes in place, the legal patchwork and the resulting confusion for consumers and businesses is growing and will continue to do so until Congress acts.”
