Marshall Cooper

CEO, Chief Executive Group

Marshall is a serial entrepreneur who builds media and information-based companies.  He specializes in turning “old” media companies into dynamic, profitable, new media powerhouses.

Since 2009, Marshall has been CEO of Chief Executive Group, LLC, which creates communities of trust for CEOs, Boards and other business leaders. Marshall has a passion for helping set the agenda for forward-thinking executives and providing practical solutions to their most difficult problems. The company has thrived under his leadership, growing at compound annual growth rate of 22+%, or nearly 10X in size since 2009.

He previously helped lead Kennedy Information before its successful sale to the Bureau of National Affairs (now Bloomberg BNA) in 2000 with five-year organic revenue growth of 650%.  He and his partner executed turn-arounds with The Institute of Finance and Management (IOFM) and Exchange Networks, troubled businesses acquired in 2010 and 2011, respectively, and sold to Diversified Business Media in 2013.  The principals grew Media Publishing International (MPI) before its sale to Variety Magazine, a subsidiary of Cahners and Reed Elsevier, as well as turned around Pyramid Research (purchased from the Economist in 2003 and sold to United Business Media in 2008).  They also helped found the web-marketing firm Vizium (sold to Aegis, PLC), which became one of the largest ad agencies in the world.

As the youngest appointee during the Presidency of George H. Bush, Marshall prepared The Daily White House News Summary from 1989-1991. He served as an economics officer for the U.S. Department of State in Helsinki, Finland, in 1988 and has twice received full Top Secret clearance.  Marshall also did merger and acquisition and strategy work for KKR’s media roll-up, K-III Communications (taken public as Primedia), and The New York Times Company. Marshall has served on the boards of several effective non-profits, including the National Board of Directors of AIPAC and CAMERA.

Marshall holds a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College, where he founded the school newspaper and established the Tuck Times Scholarship.
