Dr. Sullivan has a deep knowledge of how ESG data, benchmarks and benchmarking techniques are used in investment research and in engagement. He has advised organisations such as the UNFCCC, the OECD and Environment Australia on data standards and reporting frameworks for companies. His current and recent roles include: Interim Head of ESG Research and Standards at FTSE Russell (2017-2018), Expert Advisor to the Transition Pathway Initiative (2016-present), Strategic Advisor to the Principles for Responsible Investment (2015-present), and Strategic Advisor to Ethix SRI Advisors (2010-2015). He lectures on finance and responsible investment at both the University of Cambridge (on its Masters in Sustainability Leadership) and the University of Oxford (on its Masters in Sustainable Urban Development). Dr. Sullivan was previously Head of Responsible Investment at Insight Investment, where he established Insight as one of the world’s leading responsible investment managers for the manner in which it integrated environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into its investment processes, across a range of asset classes (equities, fixed income, agriculture/farmland, hedge funds) and a range of investment strategies and timeframes, and for the quality of its engagement with companies on these issues. Dr. Sullivan is the author/editor of eight books and many papers and articles on responsible investment and climate change, including a series of publications and reports on ESG benchmarks, data and methodologies. His publications include Valuing Corporate Responsibility: How Do Investors Really Use Corporate Responsibility Information? (Greenleaf Publishing, 2011), and Corporate Responses to Climate Change (editor, Greenleaf Publishing, 2008).
